Everything you need to know about studying in Australia, the application process, visas, and working with ASPIRE OZ.

🛂 GS Framework & Visa

What is the Genuine Student (GS) requirement?+
The GS requirement replaced the GTE (Genuine Temporary Entrant) test in March 2024. Indian applicants must answer 4 mandatory questions in their visa application demonstrating:
  • Their genuine intention to study in Australia
  • Their understanding of their chosen course and institution
  • Their financial preparedness to fund their studies and living costs
  • Their plans for post-study — whether career, PR, or returning to India
ASPIRE OZ specialises in crafting these GS narratives with surgical precision to maximise visa approval chances.
What is EL3 and how does it affect my visa?+
EL3 (Evidentiality Level 3) refers to the level of financial scrutiny applied to Indian student visa applicants. It requires you to show that you have sufficient funds that are "Decision-Ready" — meaning funds must be accessible, in your name (or a parent's), and documented correctly. Incorrect or insufficient fund documentation is one of the most common reasons for visa refusals. ASPIRE OZ reviews your financial position thoroughly before lodgement.
What is the current Australia student visa fee?+
The Subclass 500 Student Visa fee for the primary applicant is AUD 2,000 (Department of Home Affairs, effective 1 July 2025). Additional dependants attract separate charges. Always verify the current fee on the DHA website before lodgement as fees are subject to change.
Can I bring dependants on a student visa?+
Yes. Spouses/de-facto partners and dependent children can be added to a Subclass 500 visa. Dependant spouses of students enrolled in Master's by research or Doctoral degrees have unlimited work rights. Spouses of students on other courses may have work rights subject to conditions. 🎓 University Selection

What is the Group of Eight (Go8) and should I aim for them?+
The Group of Eight are Australia's eight leading research universities: University of Melbourne, ANU, University of Sydney, UNSW, Monash, University of Queensland, University of Western Australia, and University of Adelaide. Go8 universities carry the highest brand recognition globally and are excellent for research-heavy fields. However, for many Indian students, ATN (Australian Technology Network) and IRU (Innovative Research Universities) institutions may offer better industry connections, more flexible entry requirements, and stronger PR-pathway courses. ASPIRE OZ maps your profile to the best-fit university, not just the most prestigious.
When are the Australian university intakes?+
Most Australian universities operate on a semester system with two main intakes: February (Semester 1) and July (Semester 2). Some universities — like Deakin — operate on a trimester system with an additional November intake. November intake is particularly useful if you missed the July deadline. ASPIRE OZ advises on the best intake for your profile and course availability.
Are scholarships available for Indian students?+
Yes — most Australian universities offer international scholarships ranging from 10% to 100% tuition fee waivers. Examples include the Deakin Vice-Chancellor's International Scholarship (100%), Deakin India Merit Scholarships (25%), and various faculty-specific awards. Scholarship eligibility depends on your academic results, English scores, and the course applied for. ASPIRE OZ builds scholarship strategy into every application from the start.

📝 English Requirements

What IELTS score do I need?+
Minimum requirements vary by level:
  • Bachelor's degrees: IELTS 6.0 / PTE 50 (overall; no individual band below 5.5)
  • Master's degrees: IELTS 6.5 / PTE 58 (overall; no individual band below 6.0)
  • Nursing / Teaching / Health professions: IELTS 7.0 / PTE 65
Individual course requirements may be higher. Always check the specific course page. ASPIRE OZ reviews your English test results as part of the profile risk audit.
IELTS vs PTE — which is better for Australia?+
Both are widely accepted. PTE Academic is generally considered faster to sit, quicker to receive results (typically 5 business days), and marking is fully automated — removing any subjective bias. IELTS has wider global recognition if you are also applying elsewhere. For Indian students focused purely on Australia, IELTS Academic or PTE Academic are often recommended. OET is required for certain health profession courses. TOEFL iBT and Cambridge C1 are also accepted by most universities.
What if my English test score is below the requirement?+

If you miss the English requirement by a small margin, several strategic options remain. Aspire OZ will first review your academic history to determine if you qualify for a Medium of Instruction (MOI) waiver, which could waive the test requirement entirely based on your prior education.

Other pathways include:

  • Re-sitting your English test with targeted guidance
  • Enrolling in a University English pathway programme (offered by most Australian universities) to transition directly into your degree
  • Considering high-quality universities with lower minimum requirements that better match your current profile
  • Securing conditional admission to lock in your university seat while you finalise your results

Ultimately, Aspire OZ will review your eligibility and advise on the fastest, most cost-effective path based on your current score.

💰 Budgets & Costs

How much does it cost to study in Australia in total?+
  • Tuition fees: AUD 28,000 – 48,000 per year
  • Living costs: AUD 29,710 per year (EL3 DHA requirement)
  • OSHC health insurance: AUD 550 – 850 per year
  • Visa fees: AUD 2,000 (primary applicant)
  • Medicals & biometrics: AUD 450 – 600
  • Travel & misc.: AUD 2,000+
Total first-year cost: approximately AUD 62,000–82,000. Scholarships and part-time work (up to 48 hrs/fortnight) can reduce net cost significantly.
Can I work while studying in Australia?+
Yes. Student visa holders can work up to 48 hours per fortnight during term time and unlimited hours during scheduled course breaks. This is a major financial benefit — at Australian minimum wages, a part-time student can earn AUD 12,000–18,000 annually, which can cover a significant portion of living costs. ASPIRE OZ factors this into financial planning for each student.
How much money do I need to show for the visa?+
The DHA (Department of Home Affairs) requires Indian applicants to demonstrate funds to cover first year tuition fees + AUD 29,710 per year for living costs + AUD 8,574 for each additional family member per year. This must be in accessible, evidenced funds (bank statements, fixed deposits, education loans). How you present these funds is critical — ASPIRE OZ conducts a full financial review as part of our GS preparation process.

🤝 Working With ASPIRE OZ

What happens in the free Clarity Call?+
In your free 30-minute Clarity Call, Deepika will review your academic background and career goals, assess your English proficiency status, discuss your financial position, map potential universities and courses against your profile, and identify any "Red Flags" that need to be addressed before application. You'll leave the call with a clear sense of your options and next steps — with no obligation.
How is ASPIRE OZ different from other consultancies?+
Most education consultants are trained on the outside of universities — they know what universities publish publicly. Deepika spent 7+ years on the inside of Deakin University's South Asia office — managing compliance, counselling 4,000+ students, and running admissions. This gives ASPIRE OZ a fundamentally different level of insight into what actually drives admissions decisions and visa outcomes. We also combine this with career strategy and post-study PR planning from Day 1 — something very few consultancies offer.
Do you work with students from all over India?+
Yes. ASPIRE OZ works with students across India virtually. All consultations, document reviews, and support are conducted online, so your location is no barrier. We are based in Gurugram but serve students from Delhi NCR, Punjab, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, and all other states.
What are your fees for consulting services?+
Our initial Clarity Call is completely free with no obligation. For full consulting engagement fees, please contact us or book a call — we'll walk you through our service packages after understanding your specific needs. We believe in transparent, value-based pricing.

🌏 Why Australia?

Why Australia over the US, UK, or Europe?+

Indians are now the largest migrant community in Australia, having overtaken British and Chinese nationalities. Here's why Australia stands out:

  • World-Class Education: Australia is a world leader in education, offering an unmatched lifestyle alongside academic rigour
  • Safe & Stable: A peaceful environment, largely free from global geo-political issues
  • Student-Friendly Cities: International cities like Sydney and Melbourne are known for safe, clean environments and a high quality of life
  • Thriving Diaspora: Easy access to deep cultural support, festivals, and professional networks
  • Post-Study Work Rights: 2–4 years of work rights after graduation — one of the most generous in the world
Will my Indian degree be recognised in Australia?+

Yes. Under the Australia-India Qualification Recognition Mechanism, Indian Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degrees are legally recognised as equivalent to Australian degrees for further study and professional employment.

Professional Registration: While "academic equivalence" is guaranteed, specific professions (such as Medicine, Nursing, or Law) may still require a competency assessment by the relevant Australian professional body.

Do I need a "WES" or similar evaluation?+

Generally, no. Because of the Australia-India Qualification Recognition Mechanism, Australian universities can assess your Indian transcripts directly without a third-party evaluation. We help you ensure your documents are structured correctly to avoid any manual delays.

Do I need any tests for admission?+
  • English: IELTS (6.5+) or PTE Academic (58+) is standard for most programmes
  • Academic: Most universities accept the Indian 12th Board (CBSE, ICSE, or State Boards) or UGC-recognised degrees directly
  • No SAT / ACT or GRE / GMAT is required for admissions
I am under 18 years of age. Am I eligible to study in Australia?+

Yes — students under 18 can study in Australia, but there are additional requirements to ensure their safety and welfare. You will need:

  • Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from your institution
  • Welfare arrangements approved by the university or school (CAAW) or a nominated guardian in Australia
  • Parental consent and supporting documents

ASPIRE OZ has experience guiding younger students and their families through these additional requirements.

What is the ROI of an Australian degree?+

With graduate salaries in sectors like IT, Engineering, and Healthcare starting between AUD 70,000 and AUD 95,000, students typically see a full return on their tuition investment within 24–36 months of their Post-Study Work period. When combined with potential PR pathways, the long-term financial and lifestyle benefits of an Australian qualification are significant.
